One of the most important things you can do as an artist is to make time for pre production. Schedule time with your producer or session leader to work out tempos, keys, intro's, endings and arrangements for your songs. This will ultimately give more time for creative elements in the studio. Many times in the studio I have tracked a song, started overdubs and then the artist tells us they feel the key is to high, can we cut it a step lower? So now we have eaten up an hour of studio time and the magic that happened on the first take may be hard to get back. If we do our best to have everything worked out before the session starts you will find the day goes much smoother, more creative and way more fun!
